Resources:Utilisation and Development

Important points:-
    1.Resources
  • All the things on the earth, which are necessary for our existence on this planet are known as Resources.
  • Over-irrigation is responsible for water logging and makes the soil infertile.
  • Rivers are suitable for navigation in the middle and lower course.
    2. Utilization of Resources
  • The utilization of resources depends upon various factors like:-
    Availability of resources.
    Skill of human beings.
    Availability of capital.
    Availability of water.
Availability of technology (tools, machines, etc).
Availability of transport and communication facilities.
  • The advancement of technology, availability of capital and skilled labour became a necessity for the utilization of resources. For example USA is termed as developed country.
    3.lassification of Resources
    Classification based on Renewability.
  • Renewable resources:- Renewable resources are also called as inexhaustible. For example- solar energy, air and water.
  • Non renewable resources- Non renewable resources are also called as exhaustible. They produce pollution. For example- coal, petroleum, natural gas and other minerals. They are available limited on our earth.
    Classification based on Origin
  • Biotic resources- Resources which are obtained from biosphere and have a life are known as Biotic resources. Human beings are very good example for biotic resources.
  • Non biotic resources- Resources which are obtained from non living is called non biotic resources. For example- land, water, minerals, etc.
    Classification based on Occurrence-
  • Natural resources- Resources that are available from nature is called natural resources. For example- water, minerals, forests, etc. All biotic resources are known as renewable resources.
  • Man made resources- Resources created by human beings to satisfy their needs are known as man made resources. For example- roads, buildings, machines, etc.
Classification based on the development of Resources.
  • Potential resources- Available resources in a country, which are not tapped, are known as potential resources. For example, petroleum can be found in old sedimentary rocks of Himalayas or hydroelectricity can be generated by the force of falling water.
  • Actual resources-The actual resources of a country are those which have been thoroughly surveyed and their quantities have been ascertained.
    IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS:-
  • Resources- Things on earth, which are necessary for our existence on the planet are known as resources.

  • Abiotic Resources- All non living resources are called abiotic resources.
  • Natural Resources- The resources that are available from nature are called natural resources.
  • Man Made resources- Resources that are created by human beings to satisfy their needs is called man made resources.
  • Potential resources- Available resources in a country which are not fully tapped are known as potential resources.
  • Actual resources- The actual resources of a country are those which have been thoroughly surveyed and their quantities have been ascertained.
